Little People in Fur Coats

"We can judge the heart of a man by his treatment of animals." Immanuel Kant

My parents house is notorious for abandoned animals. When I was growing up, it was nothing for a stray animal to wonder up. Some we kept (mostly the cats) and others we found homes for or called the local animal shelter. We have had so many, I can't even count them all on 2 hands.

Our most recent resident we named Jasper. Jasper was a scraggly old guy who was so loud. Every time he meowed, you could hear him from yards away. And bless his little heart, every time he opened his mouth you could see all 3 teeth. He stuck around for a couple of months and after a while we noticed a gash on the top of his head. We tried to squirt neosporin in it several times, but he started to catch on to us. We talked about catching him and taking him to the vet; he went with no resistance (he was so friendly). Well, our beloved friend and vet, Dr. Paul, did some blood work and it came back that Jasper had feline Leukemia and Feline AIDS; he had to be put down. My dad and I share the same soft spot for animals, and yes it is sad for both of us, we are just happy he is in a better place.

We have a couple more strays that we have somewhat adopted as our own. Scout has been around for 3 years now. She is the most loving cat I have ever met. I'll take the food out to feed her and she just wants to be loved on. I would take her back to Raleigh if I could, but she is an outdoorsy kind of girl. When she came up, we didn't know if she was a boy or a girl. She was fat and sassy. She has all this hair that makes her seem bigger than she is. I have a big connection with her. She is a sweet cat.
Another cat we have is Angel. Angel was rescued from the yard. She was caught when she was a kitten and taken to the vet. Dr. Paul told us the she had been living off of earthworms to survive. Bless her little heart. When she was little, she was pure white. The older she got, the more of a calico blanket she seemed to have on her back. She has the bluest eyes that would be so pretty...if they weren't crossed. Yea, she may not be as friendly as the others, but she is happy and in a home not eating earthworms.
Next, we have Bear. OK, so Bear wasn't a stray, but he was abandoned in a box with 4 more of his brothers and sister (happy to report they all have great homes). E wanted to keep Bear. I think he wanted to keep Bear because of how much I was attached to him. Bear is a sweet dog and I can't believe someone would just dump animals in someone else's driveway. I told someone this and they said, "well maybe the person who dropped them there knew that the puppies had a better chance." Never thought of it that way. I think Bear is a great edition to the family!

Since the holidays are right around the corner, don't forget about the furry family members. This is the most depressing time for them. Give them some extra love, just because.

Holiday Season

It's the holiday season and there has been so much going on. I had cookie making at mom and dad's and a birthday to get ready for (not mine..E's) and tracked out to go see lights. It's been busy and I have a feeling it will stay busy until the New Year!
Let's start with E's birthday. Birthday's have always been a big deal with my family growing up. For my sister it was more of a birthday month. We always celebrated as long as we could. It was a race to see who could wish who a Happy Birthday first (I usually won). But with E's family, I've noticed it is a little lackluster. Don't get me wrong, I love E's family...couldn't have asked for a better group of people. They aren't as festive when birthday's come into play. E was a little down that day. I tried everything I could to cheer him up, he would just react as "just another birthday."
I knew it would be a day like that, so I bought him the best present EVER!! And I mean EVER!!!!

So the first picture is him opening his present (he wanted to open it early so it wasn't framed or anything). His reaction the whole time was "No you didn't! No you didn't!" Oh yes I did!! The second picture is his gift, an 11x14 picture of Josh Hamilton from the Texas Rangers (and a hometown boy). E loves Hamilton. We watched every Rangers game and even watched the World Series in Mexico. Dedication right there. It is now framed and hanging where E can see him everyday (I've already caught him twice staring at it).

Next on the list of busy times, we went to go see the Meadow Lights. Meadow Lights is this little farm area that has Christmas lights. You can ride a train to see the lights, ride a carousel and visit the store (that has old time candy by the pound, yea, we stocked up). The lights were great and it just got me in the season. Before we went, I got my Palm Christmas Tree out and decorated it and made the apartment fill Christmasy.

Merry Christmas!!!!!

Cletus...the myth, the legend

First off, sorry for the delay. It's been a little busy. But thank's for the patience!

I mentioned "Cletus" in an earlier post (Knee Deep). Cletus and I have a love/hate relationship...I love to hate him! Cleatus is a big part of my life. Cletus shows up at times where he is not wanted. The first time I remember Cletus making a huge apperance was at my sister's wedding. He was obnoxious. He overstayed his welcome, if he even had one. He made my life miserable. By the way, Cletus is my fever blister. Strange, yes, I am.

As you can see, here he is, starting off. He always does this. He will start off just being this annoying bump on my lip. Usually, he hangs out on the lower lip, he isn't a big fan of the upper lip. Cletus has been in my life for as long as I can remember. My dad use to tease me all the time. He told me it was a kissing disease and that I was kissing too many boys (of course that embarrased me and I vowed never to show my face when Cletus came to visit). He was horrible, Cletus..not my dad. He started off as a bump, and then he got bigger and bigger, taking over half of my lip...I swear I could look down and see my lip BULGING!

After hanging out for a couple of days, he would start to turn into this scabby mess. As you can see in a recent picture, he is just hanging out. I know what Cletus is and what brings him on, sometimes. Sometimes it is out of the blue...like in this shot. He is so presistant and troublesome. I have a "Cletus Burts Bees" tube just for him (he has to have his own tube, I don't want him infecting my good tubes). I have tried everything under the sun. Everything I could think of to get rid of Cletus. There is nothing on the market to get rid of Cletus (maybe a prescription...but that's not for me). I have found one thing to help him go away faster. Abriva. Abriva is my new BFF. I have 3 Abriva's scattered. 1 tube in my bathroom, 1 at mom and dads and a pump Abriva in my purse. It is amazing....clears Cletus up in a couple of days (except for the time I got one Cletus and then another one right on top of the old Cletus...it was ugly).

As I said earlier, Cletus has shown up in all of the big moments so far. My sister's wedding, my recent trip to Mexico, numerous beach trips, cookie making day, Christmas, Thanksgiving, Easter, New Years...you name it, Cletus has the t-shirt.
 Mexico...really Cletus....Mexico!
The people have been blured out for their own protection.

I know, I can't believe I just wrote about my fever blister, but hey, write what you know, right?

Sorry..Pinterest sucked me in...AGAIN!

Pinterest. I never thought I would be hooked. HOLY MOLY I was wrong! This website is like crack. So, I signed up for it and just tinkered around. Then I saw how easy it was to make the boards and pin the images. There are some crafty, talented people out there. I made a couple of boards, you know, crafty, yummy, nail polish (obsessed with sparkles now), Christmas stuff, things for the home (whenever I get a house and get to craft it up) and so on and so on. I'm going to share some of the top crafty stuff that I want to make soon....if you aren't on pinterest, don't do it...it will suck you in :)

I will be making this wreath!!

Knee Deep in the Water Somewhere....

Sorry guys...I guess I have been on a high since Mexico! So on that note, Mexico was awesome! We had the best time there. We did something every day...no down time (and even watched the World Series while we were there). The weather was beautiful the whole time and I was so sad to leave, but I was happy to come home to see my family.  Part of E's family was there, so it was nice to spend a lot of time with them. E's mom speaks Spanish very well, so we were able to go into downtown Cancun and feel somewhat comfortable walking around. We went into a grocery store and stocked up on food, they have one of the most amazing bakeries, it was so good. The water was this beautiful blue color. I took so many pictures, I just didn't want to forget it. We went to Isla Mujeres and stayed all day (got to see a turtle farm...highlight of the trip), rode in golf carts around the island, tried conch (it wasn't too bad), watched beautiful sunrises and sunsets, checked out the resorts, shopped for gifts, went to Tullum, ate amazing food, and even tried snorkeling (which that didn't work too well).

I got sick the last couple of days we were there, and on our last full day, I was running a fever...it didn't stop me going to see the ruins :)  Oh and I had a tag along the whole time I was there....Cletus! More about Cletus later :) Enjoy the pictures!!

Mexico Teaser

Here is a tease from my recent trip...

I haven't had a chance to show my family the pictures yet or tell them about my trip. Once I do that, I will update you guys and tell you all about it :)

Plus, when I flew home, I ended up getting sick, I have a cold, sinus infection and an ear infection. Welcome home Annie, welcome home!

<--Thank you clip art search

So, I've been trying to get all the loose ends figured out before me and E go. We've got our pup sitter lined up (Casa de Crews...thanks Suz) and our driver to the airport (Big Frank!!) and our shuttle for when we are in Mexico. We are so excited to go and when I get back...I will post like a crazy lady up here and tell you all about the trip (plus I will be able to finish the 30 pics project)!!!!

Day 5, 6, 7, 8 and 9

I thought this might be easier to group these pictures together. Plus I might change these up a bit and post what I want to post :)

Day 5 A Picture of Your Morning

Closer to pay days (b/c a state worker is broke all the time) I will splurge on my favorite breakfast...Asiago Parm Bagel with Jalapeno Cream Cheese....and a Hot Chocolate (great combo, I know).

Day 6  A Picture That Inspires You

This picture inspires me to be more creative. I always see things and think "I can do that!"  So, this is inspiring me to get more creative and artsy...channel my art again!

Day 7 A Picture That Makes You Cry

I'm changing this to A Picture About Your Past, because I loved this place. This was my old church growing up. We got too big to be here, so we built a new church...but this was my favorite place. It was such a small church...I loved it!

Day 8  A Picture of Yourself

I think this is one of the better pictures of me :)   I took the time to put on my make up...you can tell I am at work and it's first thing in the morning....look how tired I look :)

Day 9  What I had for Lunch

OK....I forgot to take a picture of what I ate so instead I am changing this to the Person Who Makes Me Laugh

This guy makes me laugh....my dad is so funny. Sometimes he can be a grumpadilly....we call him Ebenezer when he is like that. But lots of other times, he cracks me up! Love Big D!

More days coming soon :)

Happy Anniversary.....

This morning, 4 years ago, I started working at my current job. It was my first grown up job...kinda. Since I was 16 I have worked with the same corporation. It was the ideal job! Working with kids all day, planning activities, going on field trips, making lots of friends...it was perfect. And I mean perfect. I would have probably stayed with that corporation for life, but that wasn't in the cards. I was finishing up my last summer with the non-profit and I had to make a choice, apply for a state job that would pay me more and continue to give me benefits or stick with the non-profit, in hopes they would hire me full full time. Well, I applied, had an interview and wouldn't you know it...I got the job with the state.

So today in celebration of my 4 year anniversary, i treated myself to a Asiago Parmesan Bagel with Jalapeno Cream Cheese with a hot chocolate....go me!!

Day 2, 3 and 4

It has been some crazy days recently, so I haven't been able to post everyday. Here are 3 days in one post...

Day 2
I changed this to what I ate today...because I had the best lunch. I went to The Pit with my co workers and it was amazing! I hate that I didn't get to eat there when Ed Mitchell was there, but oh my goodness...it was so good!!! I ordered an appetizer to share...Mini PBLT (pimento cheese, bacon, lettuce and tomato on homemade biscuits) and my entree was Chopped NC BBQ with mac and cheese, sweet potato fries and it comes it a biscuit and hush puppies. The best BBQ I have ever had in my whole life! Go ahead...drool :)

Day 3... What Did I Do Today
Saturday is family day at the Davis house...so I woke up early, met up with my parents and drove over to Selma for Railroad Days Festival. We haven't been since my sister and I were younger, so we met Marie and Gene and Davis (who gave me a running hug when he saw me...melt my heart!!!). We watched the parade and that was about it, well, we walked around a little bit. I have to say I wasn't too impressed. But it was great time with my family!

Day 4
Where You Went

Today (Sunday) I went to Charlotte to go visit my fiance's family friend Joyce (such a sweet sweet lady) and no trip to Charlotte is complete without going to IKEA!!! I love love love Ikea. I seriously could spend way too much money there. I have decided though when I do get a house, I will probably outfit the whole house in IKEA. Me and E took Bear (longest road trip for Bear...but he did so well) and spent the day. It was a great day and it was nice and cool too!

Sharing is caring

Meet Bear. Bear is a year old mix who was a rescue. He was in a litter of 5 (maybe) and found in a box at the end of my aunt's driveway. I have a huge heart and a way soft spot for all animals (i had 2 pet crayfish for almost 3 years and a pet turtle for at least 5), so I felt it was up to me to find these cute puppies homes. All 5 lived in my bathtub until they were adopted (they all have great homes) and when this guy was an itty bitty, he looked just like a bear. I feel in love....but there was no way I could keep him (i have Biskit who is at mom and dads). I'm now faced with a decision...to keep him or not. Well, i did what i knew i needed to do, I gave him away.....to E. That's right, Bear's human is E.  So Bear is my first "shared" pet. I've never had one before. I've always had just mine....Lady (my first black lab) and Biskit (my current white lab).
Shared pet....totally new concept for me. I think i'm taking it well. I had to take off work today to take Bear to see Dr. Paul (my wonderful vet) to have a looksy at his foot. He's had this bump on it for a few weeks and then all of a sudden it flared up to be this massive looking gross thing. E freaked! He just "knew" something was wrong. Well, there was something wrong, but not to the extreme. Dr. Paul saw it and said, "Let me guess..." and then went on to say everything I would have told him. Genius! I believe what he told me, the tumor is histiocytoma (i blank out on big words). Basically, the tumor will go away on it's own.

As i sit writing this, Bear is curled up beside me with his "bunny" sleeping away...enjoying the love from his humans!

fall

I know it's not fall yet, but we are going to be having fall-ish weather. I love summer, don't get me wrong, but lately summer has been arriving in April (like 90 degree weather...no thanks) and then by August you have already had 30 days of 100 degrees plus. Fall is a welcomed break from sweating. I don't like to sweat as soon as I step outside at 6:30am....plus there are so many things to look forward to.

The fair is in October (Love A Fair is the theme). I love the fair. I always have. Hopefully E and I can go during the week during the day (night time is so busy and so are the weekends). Plus we have our trip to Cancun (another thing to be super excited for). There are only a couple of more weeks for the flea market at the fair grounds...it always closes up for a month. I love searching and finding awesome things...

i bought this frog....he was the most perfect thing...and he is cast iron...there is a cart full of cast iron finds...by far my favorite at the flea market. The stars are made with old license plates...i wanted to buy one, but when i came back, he was gone....hopefully he will come back. Then you find stuff that you wish you had a place for....

i loved these doors....they were amazing! i had no where to put them and i couldn't hold on to them until i bought my first home, so i had to leave them there....haven't seen them since. Hopefully the person who bought them loves them as much as i do

bad days

so, I had a really bad day yesterday. Super bad. Happened at work, so I am not going to talk about what happened, but just know it was a really bad day. I haven't really had that type of day in a long while. I called my mom after my bad day and told her what happened...I called E and told him what happened....and then I got home and cried a little bit more (yes....I cried at work too...don't judge me...I'm a cryer).

I got to thinking today about all the things that make me happy....and there are a ton of things, so I won't really go into a long list....just highlited few:

1. the beach!

makes me super happy....hate that I have only been once this summer, but things just haven't worked out for me to go...but I do love it there
2. curling up on the bed after a bad day with my stuffed animal....yes I am almost 30 and I still have my stuffed animal from when I was 2 (again, don't judge me) (by the way....this isn't him, but it looks almost like him)

3. E....he makes things funny and tries to get me out of my bad days. We've been through a ton, and I'm glad we made it....

One more thing to take my mind off the bad day......

MEXICO!!!!! We are leaving on October 17 to spend a week in Cancun!!!! So of course, that turns the bad day good!!!

sweet tea on a friday....

I very rarely indulge in Bojangles' sweet tea anymore, usually just on Fridays. Well, I guess with the upcoming Hurricane (Come on Irene...I swear (well he means) At this moment, you mean everything...Eileen, Irene...it's all the same) and the sweet tea in me, my mind has ponder on some wedding ideas. I was never really a pink girl. I mean, I have some pink and I wear it, but it's not my first choice. With that being said...i have picked out a few color choices that I like....and I don't think there are any pink. (courtesy of TheKnot.com)

OK, they are a little hard to see....but here are the pallets: Coral, Tangelo and Teal; Turquoise, Royal Blue and Electric Green; Royal Blue and Marigold; Onyx, Pewter and Cloud.
Yea, the common factor in all is Blue...I will have some type of blue Incorporated in the wedding. If I had to rate them, it would go something like this:
1. Turquoise, Royal Blue and Electric Green
2. Royal Blue and Marigold
2. Coral, Tangelo and Tea
3. Onyx, Pewter and Cloud (think this one is a little more formal than what I am thinking)

And I found this SUPER SUPER cute idea for a bouquet (not going to do it, but maybe some thing in the decor)
Courtesy of theknot.com
They are old pins! So cute.....looks like I might be heading to the flea market!!!!

I'm making cupcakes this weekend, so be prepared....cooking post coming up next!!!

Expedition Impossible

So, I'm kinda a fan of reality shows. Ok, I'm a big fan of them. I love them. One that I have taken a liking to has been Expedition Impossible. This is on ABC on Thursday nights and if you have ever seen Amazing Race, it's like that. You have teams of 3 and they have checkpoints and missions. The one difference between the two is the teamwork of the teams. Amazing Race is so cutthroat; Expedition Impossible is all about working with your team. One of the teams I am a fan of is "No Limits". They have been in the front most of the race, but the most amazing thing about them is one of their team members is blind. Watching the 3 of them work together and help each other is just so heartwarming. And the blind guy, well don't worry about him, because he holds his own. It's towards the end of the season and they have overcome so many obstacles (including one guy almost breaking his foot). It really is a neat thing to watch.

Don't get me wrong....I don't get all this sappy while watching Teen Mom, The Challenge, Survivor, Bridezilla and whatever else I can find :)
